Objective markers

I’ve seen some excellent pictures online of the models people have created for IED and objective markers for Force on Force. This is my first attempt. We play Force on Force with 20 mm figures, so I used some 1/72 diorama accessories I had lying around (perhaps from Fujimi) and HO scale crates, bags and wheelbarrows from a Preiser model …

Excellent Matt Varnish

For the gentleman gamer who does not want to use spray varnish, I can heartily recommend Winsor & Newton acrylic matt varnish. I’ve never had any “white residue” problems with it, even if I have used it quite liberally on the figures that have been painted with Vallejo acrylics. I’ve recently started to use Army painter dips (brushing it on), …

Albuera 1811 – terrain

From internet we managed to find rather splendid looking maps of the battle which included the all important elevation levels clearly presented. Since there was plenty of elevation levels we did a small size (A4) miniature of the terrain to give us a clearer 3D picture of the battlefield . With it we would be able to use if as …

Albuera 1811

On May 13th 1811, while beginning to lay siege to Badajoz, Beresford received news that a French relief force of some 25,000 men, led by Marshal Soult, were on their way from Seville. Beresford marched south with 32,000 British, Portuguese and Spanish troops, and on May 15th reached the small town of Albuera. The forces would clash in a bitter, …

Russians for 1808-1809

The Russian army was in a state of transition during the 1808 war with Sweden. They were changing into a new high level organization, new uniforms and flags were introduced, and it seems that new infantry tactics were tried out.

Finnish flags

Most of the regiments used the provincial coat of arms as the emblem in their colours. In most cases each regiment had the same number of colours as it had batallions or squadrons. Jaegers had no colours. The pdf file below has a number of ready-to-print flags.

Making trees

Perhaps the most common trees in Finland are fir, birch and pine (lodgepole pine ie. pinus contorta). While you can purchase all of these as ready made miniature trees you can save a hefty sum of money if you make them yourself especially as you’ll be needing plenty of them to cover the big forest covered battlefields (perhaps term “battleforest” …

Making terrain boards

Instead of making the terrain from generic terrain pieces, each of the battles will have a custom built terrain trying to capture the landscape as exactly as possible but still keeping in mind the playability and durability because of the need for the pieces to be transported every now and then. As the battlefields are quite large we divided each …

Basing your figures

We decided to base infantry by company one of the reasons being that this is used by our preferred ruleset General de Brigade. The size of the line infantry stand is six figures on a 3×2,5 centimetres. Stands for jaegers are slightly smaller with four figures so that skirmishing units can be deployed with wider frontage and are a bit …
